At the Feet of The Mother

Aswapati Approves, pp. 424-425

Opening Remarks
Aswapati hears his daughter, sees things through an inner vision and approves of her choice.

All sat silent
Astonished, all sat silent for a space.

Savitri spoke and everyone present seemed to be filled with astonishment and anticipation.

Aswapati looked within
Then Aswapati looked within and saw
A heavy shadow float above the name
Chased by a sudden and stupendous light;
He looked into his daughter’s eyes and spoke:
“Well hast thou done and I approve thy choice.

Aswapati is a seer and a yogi and has an access towards hidden things. So he turned within and saw a shadow float above the name of Satyavan that is chased away by a powerful Light. Then turning to his daughter he approved her choice.

All is surely well
If this is all, then all is surely well;
If there is more, then all can still be well.

His inner vision has assured him that all is well and even if other challenges and difficulties come, they can still be well.

The eye of faith
Whether it seem good or evil to men’s eyes,
Only for good the secret Will can work.

He assures that while human beings with their surface vision may judge things as good or evil, yet the secret Will can work only for good, even if it may not always seem to be an immediate good.

The double terms of destiny
Our destiny is written in double terms:
Through Nature’s contraries we draw nearer God;
Out of the darkness we still grow to light.

He further reveals to us that while we are only looking at surface profit and loss, success and failure, taking these as our destiny but the real destiny is unfolding within wherein through all these contrary experiences, through joy as well as sorrow, we move towards the Divine. We grow in wisdom and move towards Light through every experience.

Road to immortality
Death is our road to immortality.

Death itself prepares and paves our way towards realising our immortality.

Eternal Good
‘Cry woe, cry woe,’ the world’s lost voices wail,
Yet conquers the eternal Good at last.”

Though the world cries at the temporary and transient events and passing scenes and circumstances, yet this the Permanent Good that our souls have sought and it is this that will win the eventual victory and realise itself despite every opposition and resistance.

Closing Remarks
Aswapati’s approval of Savitri’s choice is based on a deeper vision and understanding of fate.
