Closing Remarks for the Book Seven

Book Seven or the Book of Yoga starts with the problem of grief ensuing from the adverse fate that Savitri has to face. After an initial turmoil and the urge to escape along with Satyavan following his steps through the realm of Death, Savitri takes up the challenge of Fate. She is shown clearly by her own higher Self that she has not come to succumb helplessly to the decree or to escape the law but to change it so that in time to come man too may find the way. She is given an initial program of the way to be followed and she follows it steadfast in her resolve.

She starts her journey within with the intent of discovering her soul. Many are the challenges that come her way, forces and beings and domains each offering her to close her journey with a final certitude. But Savitri does not stop and swims into her own depths until she finds her soul deep within her heart. The soul found, her centres of consciousness (the chakras) open spontaneously from above downwards and their workings change from the mode of ignorance to the ways of God-knowledge and God-force that streams into her making her a wide and strong and supple channel of the Mighty Mother who dwells within our hearts.

It is a beatific state but not enough to master the forces of fate and conquer Death. She is reminded of this as the gulfs of darkness open below her challenging her new found heavenly state. But the voice of Night is followed by the voice of Light bidding Savitri to conquer the ego and go beyond the personality of the moment. In this new stage she stills and silences her nature thereby entering into what is prized as the Peace of Nirvana. This inner change begins to reflect in her speech and actions though none really knows the great inner shift within her. Climbing further she is led beyond the Silence of Nirvana into the cosmic Divine and the Transcendent Supreme. One with the Supreme Divine in all Its aspects and powers, Savitri is now ready to face the engines of fate and the challenge of Death.
