Mother Divine,
to possess nothing, to regard nothing as one’s own, to receive all that comes as Thy gift, to hold it as a temporary trustee before they pass on to other hands, to remain inwardly untouched, unaffected, detached by the ‘having or not having’, to use them rightly if not divinely, without bringing selfish considerations or under the impulsion of desire is perhaps the best way to utilise the forces that circulate and pass through us changing hands as it were.
But we either make the mistake of thinking them as our own, using them without discernment for ourselves and others, or else afraid of them as obstacles on the spiritual path, give them away, preferring the barren life of an ascetic. The path of balance is however the most difficult, perhaps this is the ‘razor’s edge’, to be in the world but not of this world, to live in the world but not for the world.
To live in Thee, for Thee, by Thee, whether in rags or riches, whether in poverty or plenty, owning nothing, not even oneself since all is Thine and belongs to Thee, shunning nothing since all is Thyself. All is Thy Play with Thyself in different masks. All is Thy Glory, revealed or hidden. And while one has to act upon each mask differently taking into account its laws and qualities, one should never forget that in the hiss of the arrow and the kiss of the flute, in the blaze of the guns that destroy and in the flash of light that welds and joins it is Thou, Thou alone.
And we are Thine for all eternity.
