Opening Remarks
The souls transiting after death move through these worlds, through the bright and dark worlds.
Heaven ever young
Heaven ever young and earth too firm and old
Delay the heart by immobility:
Their raptures of creation last too long,
Their bold formations are too absolute;
Carved by an anguish of divine endeavour
They stand up sculptured on the eternal hills,
Or quarried from the living rocks of God
Win immortality by perfect form.
The ever youthful Heaven and old and firm earth delay the heart. They do not allow rapid transitions. Their rapture and creations have a certain fixity and last awhile. Their forms and formations are bold and clear and absolute, carved by a divine labour and anguish. They stand like sculptures on eternal hills or are quarried as in living rocks of God thus remaining immortal virtue of the perfection of form that needs no change.
Intimate with eternal things
They are too intimate with eternal things:
Vessels of infinite significances,
They are too clear, too great, too meaningful;
No mist or shadow soothes the vanquished sight,
No soft penumbra of incertitude.
These heavens are intimate with eternal things that are of infinite significance. They are too clear, too great, too meaningful without any mist or shadow or blindness or doubt and incertitude.
These only touched
These only touched a golden hem of bliss,
The gleaming shoulder of some godlike hope,
The flying feet of exquisite desires.
These heavens through which Satyavan was transiting are however touched by a golden hem of bliss from these true heavens. They were like gleaming shoulder of some divine hope, the flying feet of exquisite desires.
Trembling brink
On a slow trembling brink between night and day
They shone like visitants from the morning star,
Satisfied beginnings of perfection, first
Tremulous imaginings of a heavenly world:
They mingle in a passion of pursuit,
Thrilled with a spray of joy too slight to tire.
These godlike beings were skirting around the borders where heaven and hell meet. They gave the first hint of the perfection of heaven. They mingled together in a passion of pursuit, gathering joy that does not tire.
Closing Remarks
The souls transiting after death hardly enters through the true heavens. Ordinarily it skirts around them.
