Opening Remarks
Now Satyavan feels the change within him, the change that comes through love.
Satyavan looked out
And Satyavan looked out from his soul’s doors
And felt the enchantment of her liquid voice
Fill his youth’s purple ambience and endured
The haunting miracle of a perfect face.
Satyavan’s soul now looked on at Savitri. He felt the enchantment of her liquid voice fill his youthful atmosphere and all underwent a miraculous change at the sight of the perfect face.
Adored a new divinity
Mastered by the honey of a strange flower-mouth,
Drawn to soul-spaces opening round a brow,
He turned to the vision like a sea to the moon
And suffered a dream of beauty and of change,
Discovered the aureole round a mortal’s head,
Adored a new divinity in things.
Subdued completely to her flower mouth and the sweetness of her voice he felt drawn to her soul-spaces round her brow. He turned towards her as the sea to the moon and suffered the invasion of a dream of beauty and change. Discovering the aura arpund her face he felt and adored the divinity born of love.
Foundered in fire
His self-bound nature foundered as in fire;
His life was taken into another’s life.
His nature felt the heat and the fire even as his life seemed to be taken in another’s life.
Godhead greater than his own
The splendid lonely idols of his brain
Fell prostrate from their bright sufficiencies,
As at the touch of a new infinite,
To worship a godhead greater than their own.
All the great ideals he had constructed by his thoughts in his mind fell as if inadequate at the touch of infinity. He felt the sense of worship of a godhead greater than all the rest.
Imperious force
An unknown imperious force drew him to her.
A strange unknown force drew him to her.
Gaze met gaze
Marvelling he came across the golden sward:
Gaze met close gaze and clung in sight’s embrace.
Marvelling he came across the golden sward. Their eyes met and embraced each other through the agency of sight.
Closing Remarks
We have a remarkably beautiful description of what is generally known as love at first sight. But this first sight is not just an outward seeing but the reaching out of the soul to soul.
