Opening Remarks for Part Two and Book Four
Books Four through Eight constitute Part Two of the Epic. It deals primarily with Savitri’s birth, her many-sided growth needed for the work she has come down to accomplish, her meeting and betrothal with Satyavan, the prophecy about Satyavan’s death, Savitri’s yoga to change fixed destiny and inevitable death and finally Satyavan’s death in the forest. Just as Part One was dedicated primarily to the Yoga of Aswapati, Part Two is dedicated to Savitri and her yoga for earth and man.
Book Four covers the period from Savitri’s birth, the development of her outer being and personality touched by her vast and radiant inner truth. When she comes of age then she must venture out into the world to find her partner and mate with whom she would walk together and with whom she is destined to fulfil her divine mission. Book Four ends with Savitri starting this quest and meeting various persons on the highways of her life though not yet the one destined face.
