The Boundless Silence

Thou hast reached the boundless silence of the Self,
Thou hast leaped into a glad divine abyss;
But where hast thou thrown Self’s mission and Self’s power?

On what dead bank on the Eternal’s road?

One was within thee who was self and world,
What hast thou done for his purpose in the stars?

Escape brings not the victory and the crown!

Something thou cam’st to do from the Unknown,
But nothing is finished and the world goes on
Because only half God’s cosmic work is done.

The First Step

July 12, 1914

In all the states of being, in all the modes of activity, in all things, in all the worlds, one can meet Thee and unite with Thee, for Thou art everywhere and always present. He who has met Thee in one activity of his being or in one world of the universe, says “I have found Him” and seeks nothing more; he thinks he has reached the summit of human possibilities. What a mistake! In all the states, in all the modes, in all things, all worlds, all the elements we must discover Thee and unite with Thee and if one element is left aside, however small it may be, the communion cannot be perfect, the realisation cannot be accomplished.

And that is why to have found Thee is but a first step on an infinite ladder….

O sweet Master, sovereign Transfigurator, put an end to all negligence, all lazy indolence, gather together all our energies, make them into an indomitable, irresistible will.

O Light, Love, ineffable Force, all the atoms cry to Thee so that Thou mayst penetrate and transfigure them….

Give to all the supreme delight of the communion.

The Work of Continuity

The work of achieving a continuity which permits one to go up and down and bring into the material what is above, is done inside the consciousness. He who is meant to do it, the Avatar, even if he were shut up in a prison and saw nobody and never moved out, still would he do the work, because it is a work in the consciousness, a work of connection between the Supermind and the material being. He does not need to be recognised, he need have no outward power in order to be able to establish this conscious connection. Once, however, the connection is made, it must have its effect in the outward world in the form of a new creation, beginning with a model town and ending with a perfect world.

Songs of the Soul: December 28, 2024

Mother Divine, Maa, the Age of Religions is over. It has served its purpose of inculcating faith in the Beyond. At its best It has led mankind to the lanes and by-lanes that lead us to the pathways of God. But it has failed to show the face of God to man nor helped us move beyond our earthly state except as a promise after death. At its worst it has led man to believe that the lanes are all that there is to God’s mansion and bound his freely expanding soul into some narrow streets and bazaars of limited beliefs. But Thou art everywhere and in everything. The Path is everywhere and the doors of Thy Mansion open for everyone and on all sides. All that is needed is to knock with faith, faith that Thou art real and that we do not need limited beliefs to enter into relations with Thee. If the door or even a small window is open, slowly You enter and take over our entire life so much so that we can no more call it our own.

O Mother, Mother, Mother, let nothing be left closed to Thee, sealed to Thy touch. May all the doors and windows of our being be wide open to Thee so that Thy Light floods every corner and Thy Love occupies every space in us, possessing us completely and making us Your own.

Myth and Reality

Myth is neither a fiction nor an imagination. It is simply another order of reality. Just as Science explores physical reality, myth explores and reveals to the initiate other realities that lie juxtaposed to the physical, running parallel as it were and yet interlacing and influencing the physical world.

Science itself will one day enter these parallel universes. It is already doing so to a certain extent and thereby assuming proportions of a myth. Some myths are symbolic realities, they are representative of occult and spiritual views and experience of Existence.

To the initiate the meaning is revealed intuitively and is often confirmed in his own experience. To the uninitiated and the crude physical mind tied to the sensory experience alone they appear as a mass of unintelligible mutterings of a primitive humanity.

Why Such a Long Spiritual Evolution is Necessary?

Spiritual evolution, for that matter all evolution upon earth is based on and conditioned by matter which is not easily responsive to the spiritual energy. There are of course worlds where there is no effort and struggle. But that kind of creation is very limited one. It is typal and static with no scope of improving upon itself. Man, when he evolves beyond a point, does have the choice to rest or dwell there forever or else even quit the game completely.

The material world, on the other hand is very challenging but with immense possibilities. Hence the number of Avatars, sages and saints, heroes and martyrs and saviours. But these pioneers do it gladly despite taking the largest share of the burden because they feel it worthwhile and out of immense love and compassion. Thanks to all these efforts we have come a long way from the original brute to the present rational creature with some spiritual seeking and even occasional glimpses.

The spiritual is fairly close now as evident from many things. It is this that will change the ways of mankind and its tendency towards evil by changing the psychological atmosphere of the earth. It is just as man’s coming changed earthly life so too will it be by the coming of the spiritualised humanity that will deal with earth and life very differently.
