Opening Remarks
Her presence was a summons to higher and greater things. But humanity responds in its own way to the call of divinity.
Only a few responded
Only a few responded to her call:
Still fewer felt the screened divinity
And strove to mate its godhead with their own,
Approaching with some kinship to her heights.
Only a few responded to her call to divinity. Still few felt the divinity within her and strove to walk with her as her kin.
A moment’s leap
Uplifted towards luminous secrecies
Or conscious of some splendour hidden above
They leaped to find her in a moment’s flash,
Glimpsing a light in a celestial vast,
But could not keep the vision and the power
And fell back to life’s dull ordinary tone.
Sensing an upliftment towards the luminous heights, or conscious of some hidden splendours they leaped towards her in a flash drawn by a glimpse of a vast celestial light. However they could not keep the vision and the power and fell back to life’s ordinary routine.
Growing towards largeness
A mind daring heavenly experiment,
Growing towards some largeness they felt near,
Testing the unknown’s bound with eager touch
They still were prisoned by their human grain:
They could not keep up with her tireless step;
Too small and eager for her large-paced will,
Too narrow to look with the unborn Infinite’s gaze
Their nature weary grew of things too great.
Though by her touch their mind dared and leaped towards the unknown and grew towards a largeness, their hearts were still imprisoned by the human ways. They could not keep apace with her swift and large-paced will. Their being was too narrow to look with the wide gaze of the Infinite. Their nature grew tired and weary too soon of things too great.
Measure of her soul
For even the close partners of her thoughts
Who could have walked the nearest to her ray,
Worshipped the power and light they felt in her
But could not match the measure of her soul.
Even those closest to her who had the capacity of thought worshiped the light and power in her but could not match the stride of her soul.
A friend and yet too great
A friend and yet too great wholly to know,
She walked in their front towards a greater light,
Their leader and queen over their hearts and souls,
One close to their bosoms, yet divine and far.
She was to them a wonderful friend and yet too great to know fully. She always walked ahead towards a greater light as their leader and queen ruling over their hearts and souls, close to their bosoms, yet too high, to pure, too perfect, too divine and hence seemingly far.
Attempting with godlike rush
Admiring and amazed they saw her stride
Attempting with a godlike rush and leap
Heights for their human stature too remote
Or with a slow great many-sided toil
Pushing towards aims they hardly could conceive;
Yet forced to be the satellites of her sun
They moved unable to forego her light,
Desiring they clutched at her with outstretched hands
Or followed stumbling in the paths she made.
They admired and were amazed at her stride attempting like a godlike leap towards heights too remote for human natures. Or else she strove towards the future with slow yet many-sided toil towards aims beyond human conception. Yet were they like satellites of her sun whom they could not leave. They walked towards her with outstretched hands or followed stumblingly in the paths she made.
Bore her inner happiness
Or longing with their self of life and flesh
They clung to her for heart’s nourishment and support:
The rest they could not see in visible light;
Vaguely they bore her inner mightiness.
Or else longing for her with their life and body they clung to her for emotional support. The rest they could not fathom or understand though vaguely bearing her inner mightiness.
Turbid human love
Or bound by the senses and the longing heart,
Adoring with a turbid human love,
They could not grasp the mighty spirit she was
Or change by closeness to be even as she.
Or else bound by the senses they adored her with a turbid human love a could not grasp her mighty spirit or change by closeness to her.
To be near her
Some felt her with their souls and thrilled with her,
A greatness felt near yet beyond mind’s grasp;
To see her was a summons to adore,
To be near her drew a high communion’s force.
Some felt her with their souls and were thrilled by her greatness beyond mind’s grasp. To see her inspired adoration and her nearness drew for them a high and divine force through a silent communion.
Closing Remarks
We are given some glimpse into her mightiness and wisdom as compared with the normal ordinary human life.
