At the Feet of The Mother

Savitri Answers, pp. 507-508

Opening Remarks
Savitri answers to the goddess of suffering who bears and endures our pain and wounds.

Being of pity
And Savitri heard the voice, the echo heard
And turning to her being of pity spoke:
“Madonna of suffering, Mother of grief divine,
Thou art a portion of my soul put forth
To bear the unbearable sorrow of the world.

Savitri hears the echo of the Madonna of suffering in the human abysses and turning to her being of pity starts speaking her. She addresses her as Madonna of suffering, Mother of grief divine who takes upon herself the grief and suffering of creation. Savitri reveals that she is indeed a portion of her soul that has been put forth into the world to bear the sorrow of all creatures.

Because thou art
Because thou art, men yield not to their doom,
But ask for happiness and strive with fate;
Because thou art, the wretched still can hope.

Because of her men do not yield to the blows of fate and doom. Due to her men ask for happiness and struggle against fate. Because of her even the wretched can still hope.

Power to solace, not to save
But thine is the power to solace, not to save.

The Madonna of suffering has the power to solace but not the power to save.

One day I will return
One day I will return, a bringer of strength,
And make thee drink from the Eternal’s cup;
His streams of force shall triumph in thy limbs
And Wisdom’s calm control thy passionate heart.

Savitri promises to Madonna of suffering that one day she will return and bring strength and make her drink from the Eternal’s cup so that His Force may stream into her limbs and triumph. She would also bring Wisdom’s calm control to her passionate heart that is full of pity and seeks to help all creatures.

World shall be freed
Thy love shall be the bond of humankind,
Compassion the bright key of Nature’s acts:
Misery shall pass abolished from the earth;
The world shall be freed from the anger of the Beast,
From the cruelty of the Titan and his pain.

Love shall then bind human beings and compassion will be the luminous key to Nature’s actions. Misery shall pass away abolished from the earth and the world shall be freed from the angry growl the beast and the cruel tortures of the Titan.

Peace and Joy
There shall be peace and joy for ever more.”

Savitri finally assures that there shall indeed be peace and joy forever more in this world.

Closing Remarks
Savitri reveals that only when wisdom and strength join with kindness and love that the world will be saved from the cruelty of the Titan and the pain he inflicts upon himself and others.
