Opening remarks
Savitri now reveals in a very brief way the beginning of the journey of Creation through the process of Involution.

A traveller new-discovering
A traveller new-discovering himself,
One made of Matter’s world his starting-point,
He made of Nothingness his living-room
And Night a process of the eternal light
And death a spur towards immortality.

It is God who is discovering Himself in terms of Matter as a traveller passing through gates of Death. He entered into Nothingness as in a living room. He turned Night into a process of the eternal light and death as a spur towards discovering its immortality.

Matter’s cowl
God wrapped his head from sight in Matter’s cowl,
His consciousness dived into inconscient depths,
All-Knowledge seemed a huge dark Nescience;
Infinity wore a boundless zero’s form.

God covered his luminous head from the sight in a hood of Matter. His consciousness dived into inconscient depths. His Omniscience seemed to become a huge dark Nescience. Infinity assumed the form of a boundless Nothingness.

Insensible deeps
His abysms of bliss became insensible deeps,
Eternity a blank spiritual Vast.

His deeps of bliss became insensible abysses and His eternity turned into a blank spiritual Vast.

Annulling and original nullity
Annulling an original nullity
The Timeless took its ground in emptiness
And drew the figure of a universe,
That the spirit might adventure into Time
And wrestle with adamant Necessity
And the soul pursue a cosmic pilgrimage.

Annulling the Original nullity that holds within itself the seeds of creation, the Timeless made a ground in emptiness and drew the figure of a universe in Space and Time. This was made so that the spirit might adventure into Time and wrestle with Necessity. Thus this field of the universe becomes the cosmic pilgrimage of the soul.

Black immensities
A spirit moved in black immensities
And built a Thought in ancient Nothingness;
A soul was lit in God’s tremendous Void,
A secret labouring glow of nascent fire.

A spirit moved in the black immensities and sowed a Thought in the Nothingness of God. The soul, a luminous spark of God entered the tremendous Void as a secret labouring glow of nascent fire.

Nihil’s gulf
In Nihil’s gulf his mighty Puissance wrought;
She swung her formless motion into shapes,
Made Matter the body of the Bodiless.

God filled the gulfs of Nothingness by His mighty Puissance. Through her dance and movement, His Shakti built forms out of her formless state. She made forms built out of Matter into bodies of the Bodiless.

Eternal Mights
Infant and dim the eternal Mights awoke.

The eternal Mights woke up from an infant and dim state in the beginning of creation.

Inert Matter
In inert Matter breathed a slumbering Life,
In a subconscient Life Mind lay asleep;
In waking Life it stretched its giant limbs
To shake from it the torpor of its drowse;
A senseless substance quivered into sense,
The world’s heart commenced to beat, its eyes to see,
In the crowded dumb vibrations of a brain
Thought fumbled in a ring to find itself,
Discovered speech and fed the new-born Word
That bridged with spans of light the world’s ignorance.

At first out of inert Matter there emerged a slumbering Life. In this early subconscient Life, Mind lay asleep. In Life as it woke up, the Mind began to expand and stretch its giant limbs to shake it from the torpor of Ignorance. A senseless substance quivered and senses were formed. The world’s heart began to beat and see. Thought began to take shape in the crowded dumb vibrations of a brain and fumbling to find itself expressed through speech. Speech climbed to discovered the new Word that bridged the world’s ignorance with spans of light.

The thinker
In waking Mind, the Thinker built his house.

Man, the thinker built his house in the waking Mind.
