The immoral man cannot understand the ways of God since he lacks the needed purity of senses and mind that subtilise the intelligence. He is too pragmatic to know God’s ways. He can see in the world nothing but a play of his crude lusts and desires and when God refuses to concede to these he turns away not understanding the play of Krishna that steals our old and stained robes to give us a new gown of imperishable fabric.
But can the moral man understand His play any better? No the moralist too cannot understand God since he seeks to straightjacket His Will into fixed formulas and rigid notions of what God must do and not do. He is too idealistic to understand the play of Krishna that snatches the empire built by sweat and blood and gives to the emperor of yore a seat in his chariot by His side and pilots it through a gory bloodstained field of war.
Nor can the rational man ever understand God’s play since he is too busy trying to fit Him into a neat symmetric world. But God breaks everything that is too symmetrical so that it may evolve towards a greater and greater perfection.
Therefore to understand His play we must first free our minds of all conceptions and notions and even systems of beliefs and philosophies and ideologies that have imprisoned Him in cages of thought, painting the bars with colours of our fancies and desires.
Then in that deep quietude, denuded of the ego-self, stripped of desires, freed from the mental prison we shall see His ways with open eyes in this world where He has chosen to hide Himself behind a net of forms and forces. We shall have His mighty purpose served through failure and fall, the beauty of the ugly and the folly of the wise. Then our hearts shall rejoice and lift a hymn of gladness and gratitude to the profound Wisdom that has built the world and the infinite Love that labours in its heart. Then shall our pain and suffering go forever and be transformed into ecstasy born of the deepest and most profound love that our earth can ever experience
