The Soul-Mate, pp. 374-375

Opening remarks
The idea of soul-mate though much distorted through fanciful fantasy carries within itself a seed of truth about the complimentary being who is meant to be with us for the work upon earth.

Unknown lover
For somewhere on the longing breast of earth,
Thy unknown lover waits for thee the unknown.

The complimentary being could be anywhere upon earth. Savitri is to undertake the journey to discover her unknown lover.

The soul has strength
Thy soul has strength and needs no other guide
Than One who burns within thy bosom’s powers.

Aswapati reminds Savitri that her souls is conscious and has the power to discover her complimentary being. No other guide or outer aid is needed than the burning fire of the soul within the heart.

The second self
There shall draw near to meet thy approaching steps
The second self for whom thy nature asks,
He who shall walk until thy body’s end
A close-bound traveller pacing with thy pace,
The lyrist of thy soul’s most intimate chords
Who shall give voice to what in thee is mute.

Aswapati reminds Savitri that the second self, the complimentary being who must draw near and whom her nature asks for, will walk with her until the body’s end. This complimentary being is the close-bound traveller walking together at the same pace. He will express what is held within her and be the lyricist the soul’s most intimate aspiration.

Kindred harps
Then shall you grow like vibrant kindred harps,
One in the beats of difference and delight,
Responsive in divine and equal strains,
Discovering new notes of the eternal theme.

Aswapati already blesses the would be couple to be that they will grow together like kindred harps. She will be one with him in difference and the delight of union. Both would be responsive in divine and equal strains discovering new notes and beats of the eternal theme of creation which is about manifesting the Divine rhythm in life. Thus they will walk together at the same pace and with the same rhythm towards the same goal.

Hand in strong hand
One force shall be your mover and your guide,
One light shall be around you and within;
Hand in strong hand confront Heaven’s question, life:
Challenge the ordeal of the immense disguise.

He blesses as well as reveals the secret truth of a lasting union in marriage. One force must move and guide them, that means walking the same path towards the same goal at the same pace. One light would surround and grow within. Hand in strong hand they must together confront the question of Heaven that life is and take on the challenge of death, the dark and dreadful mask that the evolutionary Power has worn to challenge and spur mankind.

Face the high gods
Ascend from Nature to divinity’s heights;
Face the high gods, crowned with felicity,
Then meet a greater god, thy self beyond Time.”

Thus together they would ascend from Nature to divinity’s heights, face the gods and be crowned with felicity until they would meet a greater god which is their own self, the central being beyond Time.

Closing Remarks
Aswapati bids Savitri to go out into the wide world and discover her soul-mate.
